Privacy Policy

Last updated October 2026

Learn2ID is operated by UP2U LLC (“we”). This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. We do not sell your personal information.

You can use most of the site without an account

Reading the Learn pages and playing rounds does not require you to sign up. An account is only needed to earn medals, appear on a leaderboard or keep your progress.

What we collect

  • If you make an account: your first and last name, the display name you pick, your email address, the password you choose (stored encrypted, never visible to us), and the approximate town and state your connection comes from when you sign up.
  • As you play: which photos you were shown, the answers you gave, your scores, medals and progress.
  • If you report a photo: what you said and which photo it was.
  • Automatically: ordinary technical information such as your IP address, browser and the pages you visit, collected by our hosting and analytics providers.
  • Site statistics: we count visits by approximate city and state, worked out from your connection (never your exact location), and where the visit came from (for example Facebook or a search). These counts are not linked to you. If you are signed in, we also note which days you visit and roughly how long you stay, so we can see how members use the site.

We do not ask for your home address, your date of birth or your payment details, because we have no use for them. The one exception is the Secret Word Giveaway below: if you win, we ask for a shipping address so we can send your prize.

Why we collect it

  • To run your account and keep your progress and medals.
  • To work out which photos players find hardest, so we can improve them.
  • To keep the site working and to stop abuse.
  • To show advertising, which is what pays for the site.

Cookies and advertising

We use cookies to keep you signed in. Our advertising partners, including Google, may also use cookies to show ads and to measure them. Google’s use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can turn off personalised advertising in Google’s Ads Settings, and opt out of many other advertising cookies at aboutads.info.

Photos you post

When you post a photo in Help Me ID This, we remove its hidden location and camera data before it leaves your phone. We keep the state you choose. Google checks each photo for nudity or violence.

Facebook and Instagram messages

If you comment on one of our posts asking for a quiz (for example, “QUIZ”), Meta sends us your account ID, your name or username, and your comment. We use these only to reply with a private message containing the quiz link. We record whether you tapped the button in that message, so we can see if our messages are useful. We never post anything on your behalf, and we don’t use this to advertise to you. We delete this information after 12 months, or sooner if you ask — see our data deletion page.

Secret Word Giveaway

If you enter the Secret Word Giveaway, we keep the secret words you enter (so they can count again each month), your entries, your wrong guesses (to keep the giveaway fair), your invite link, and which friends joined with it. If you win, we email you at your account’s email address and ask for your shirt size and a shipping address, so we can send your prize.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your information and we do not trade it. We use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf: Supabase (accounts and database), Vercel (hosting), Resend (email), Google (advertising, and checking posted photos) and Meta (Facebook and Instagram messages). Each holds only what it needs to do its job. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

What other players can see

If you appear on a leaderboard, your display name and score are public. Your email address never is. Choose a display name you are happy for strangers to see.

In Help Me ID This, other members see your display name, your medals and ID Reviewer badge, your photos and your comments. What you voted for stays hidden, except from our admins.

Children

Learn2ID is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you are under 13, please do not create an account. If you believe a child under 13 has made one, email us and we will delete it. Schools using Learn2ID with pupils should do so without individual pupil accounts.

How long we keep it

We keep your account information for as long as your account exists, and delete it when you ask us to. Anonymous statistics about which photos are answered correctly are kept indefinitely, because they are not linked to you.

Your choices

You can change your display name or email in your account settings. You can ask us to delete your account and everything attached to it by emailing us, and we will do it — see our data deletion page. Depending on where you live you may have further rights over your data, such as a copy of it — ask and we will help.

Security

We take reasonable care to protect your information, but no site can promise perfect security. Please use a password you do not use anywhere else.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page.
